General description
The LM5025A is a functional variant of the LM5025active clamp PWM controller. The functionaldifferences of the LM5025A are that the CS1 andCS2 current limit thresholds have been increased to0.5 V, the internal CS2 filter discharge device hasbeen disabled and no longer operates each clockcycle, and the internal VCC and VREF regulatorscontinue to operate when the line UVLO pin is belowthreshold.The LM5025A PWM controller contains all of thefeatures necessary to implement power convertersusing the Active Clamp / Reset technique. With theactive clamp technique, higher efficiencies andgreater power densities can be realized compared toconventional catch winding or RDC clamp / resettechniques. Two control outputs are provided: themain power switch control (OUT_A) and the activeclamp switch control (OUT_B). The two internalcompound gate drivers parallel both MOS and bipolardevices, providing superior gate drive characteristics.This controller is designed for high-speed operationincluding an oscillator frequency range up to 1 MHzand total PWM and current sense propagation delaysless than 100 ns. The LM5025A includes a highvoltage start-up regulator that operates over a wideinput range of 13 V to 90 V. Additional featuresinclude: line undervoltage lockout (UVLO), soft start,oscillator UP and DOWN sync capability, precisionreference, and thermal shutdown.
